The School reviewed the current knowledge and methods of
Nuclear Physics and Particle Accelerators with application in Medicine and Biology.
On the initiative of the University Center" of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR UC), Adam Mickiewicz University
(AMU, Poznan) and the Czech Technical University
(CTU, Prague) the first Summer School „Nuclear Physics Methods and Accelerators in Biology and Medicine (NUPHYMA in BIOMED) was organized on June 27 – July 11, 2001 in JINR. The Summer School is held every two years rotating between JINR Member States (June 19 – 30, 2003, Poznan; June 30 – July 11, 2005, Dubna; July 8 - 19, 2007, Prague; July 6 – 15, 2009, Bratislava). The goal of these Schools is to present the current status and advances in modern applied medical physics. From the beginning, the programme includes active student’s participation in the Summer School in frame of special student sessions. The Summer School in year 2011 will embrace also other topics like environmental & life sciences, trends in biology where the application of nuclear physics are also frequently used.
Participats could be undergraduate and graduate University students of Engineering, Physics, Medicine and Biology.
Official language of the courses and proceedings is English.
