The Second International Summer Student School on Neutrino Physics in Memory of Bruno Pontecorvo is organized by the University Centre of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in cooperation with colleagues from the Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics (BITP, Kiev, Ukraine) on 7-18 September 2003 in Alushta (the Crimea, Ukraine).

 

The basic aim of the School is to teach various theoretical and experimental aspects of neutrino physics to students and postgraduates.

 

The School is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Bruno Pontecorvo.

PARTICIPATION

The School is open to graduate students and young physicists working towards a PhD degree in high energy physics.

The number of students will be about 80.

 

LANGUAGE

The working language of the School is English.

 

LOCATION

The School will be held on the southern coast of the Crimea, at JINR’s comfortable holiday resort “Dubna”, Naberezhnaya str.,20, Alushta, the Crimea, Ukraine; phone (3806560)31508 or 31588; fax (3806560)35250. The holiday resort is located about 150 meters from the beach. The nearest airport is Simferopol.

 

ACCOMMODATION

The participants of the School will be accommodated at the holiday resort "Dubna". All the meals will be served there.

 

SOCIAL PROGRAMME

A welcome party and a full-day excursion with a picnic are planned.

 

SCHOOL FEE

The School fee of 450 USD (or its equivalent in EURO) for participants from JINR non-member countries and 350 USD for participants from JINR member countries payable IN CASH upon arrival will cover full board and lodging at the holiday resort "Dubna" from the dinner on Sunday, 7 September to the breakfast on Thursday, 18 September 2003, as well as refreshments during the morning and afternoon breaks, the use of recreational facilities of the holiday resort, and the social activities mentioned.

 

It does not include travel expenses from participants' home institutions to Simferopol and back.

 

The Organizing Committee will provide meeting participants in Simferopol and their transfer from Simferopol to Alushta.

 

The fee for accompanying persons is 400 USD or the equivalent in EURO.

 

Credit cards or cheques will not be accepted.

 

VISAS

Please note: Ukrainian and Russian visas are to be obtained separately. Those wishing to visit Ukraine and Russia (as a transit) have to apply for both visas.

 

The Organizing Committee will support visa application only for the period of the School (including the transit through Russia if necessary).

 

Citizens of the former Soviet Union's Republics do not need the Ukrainian visa.

 

Citizens of the Eastern European countries except the Czech Republic and Slovakia do not need the Ukrainian visa either.

 

To get the Ukrainian visa, one should apply to the nearest Ukrainian Consulate and present the official invitation provided by the Organizing Committee from Ukraine.

 

For the Russian visa, the attached VISA APPLICATION form should be filled. A copy of the passport first page should be sent together with the form either by fax or e-mail.

TRAVEL

The arrival day is Sunday, September 7; the departure day is Thursday, 18 September.

 

The Crimea (with its capital city Simferopol) can be reached by air, car or train. Simferopol has direct air connection with Kiev, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and many other cities. Kiev has direct air connection with many capitals and other cities. To reach Simferopol from Kiev, one can take a train or a plane. There is also a direct flight from Frankfurt to Simferopol on Saturdays.
