Visiting supercomputer and its forefathers

On 18 April, students of the Physics and Mathematics Open Classroom visited the Laboratory of Information Technologies of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

Igor Pelevanyuk, a laboratory staff member, introduced the students to the history of the rapid progress of computer equipment and information technologies over the 60 years of existence of the JINR computer center. In the mini-museum students saw "memory cubes", floppy disks, and films from bubble chambers. And in the next room – a modern computer center with supercomputers, computing farms and disk drives.
