JINR University Centre/JINR Visit Centre/Dubna University – is it the same?
No, they are three different things. Many participants get confused when hearing these names.
Dubna University is a state Russian university located in Dubna. It is an institution separate from JINR. From your hotel, you can get there by taxi, bus, or on foot.
JINR Visit Centre is a department of JINR responsible for assisting foreign specialists, who arrive at JINR, in filing all the necessary papers as a one-stop service. From your hotel, you can get there by taxi or on foot.
JINR University Centre is a department of JINR mainly responsible for the organising and running of the international training programmes for students and postgraduates (including this very programme - ISP). You cannot go to UC by taxi, as it is located on the JINR territory guarded by the Checkpoint. So first you need to get to and go through the JINR Checkpoint. On the JINR territory, JINR University Centre is located in the Laboratory of Information Technologies, 4 floor.

-
What does the ISP programme consist of?
A traditional programme is as follows: the first 2-3 days of the Practice are dedicated to introductory lectures and guided tours of the JINR laboratories. The rest of the time is devoted to working on research projects under supervision of JINR specialists. The last day of the Practice is traditionally devoted to the presentation of project reports made by the students on the work they have performed at JINR. Different ISP stages also include different social events (depending on the season and the number of participants).
-
How can I choose a project?
The general list of all projects can be found here. Due to the fact that the project supervisors have to combine scientific supervision of participants with their everyday working duties, the range of projects available for every stage may be different. Therefore, every year for every stage a separate list of available projects is posted on each Stage web-page. To choose a project, you need to click on the pdf-file icon next to the project name to see the project description. You will work on one project only.
-
Is there some kind of report I should make at the end of the Practice?
The last day of the Practice is traditionally devoted to the presentation of project reports made by the students on the work they have performed at JINR. The working language is English. Afterwards, the reports are posted on the website page dedicated to the Practice stage.
Here are some presentation tips:
Purpose
Project presentations made by students are scheduled for the last working day of the Practice. The main goal of the presentations is evaluation of students’ work. During the Practice, different students work on different projects, therefore, another aim is to give the other participants a better idea of the entire range of research projects performed at the JINR Laboratories.
Timing and format
Most of the participants are organised in teams working on a project. Each team prepares one presentation. Some of the students work individually and thus prepare individual presentations. Please pay your attention to the fact that according to the request of RSA supervisors, each student from RSA must be given an opportunity to speak during the presentation. Taking into account the total number of participants and the number of projects, each presentation should not last more than 10-30 min, depending on the number of speakers: 10 min for 1 speaker, 15 min for 2 speakers, 20 min for 3-4 speakers, 30 min for 5+ speakers. This includes time for questions from the audience. We kindly ask you to stick to the timing. The format of presentations should be chosen by the speakers. UC facilities will be provided to make the presentation.
Contents
The presentation should include:
1) project title
2) list of project participants and their affiliation
3) JINR laboratory, where the project has been carried out and the name of the project supervisor
4) aim of the project (scientific problem, field of research, possible applications, etc.)
5) equipment description
6) work/experiment description
7) results obtained
Other points can be added optionally. All presentations must be sent to the Organising Committee one day before reporting. If you need to visit the presentation room to rehearse your presentation and make sure that all animations, videos, etc. run smoothly, please inform the Organising Committee about it in advance.
-
What should I do in case of any problems with my project supervisor?
If you realise you cannot be on the project any longer for any reason, you can inform your project supervisor and/or the Organising Committee about your decision to change the project.
In case you are experiencing a problem you feel uncomfortable to discuss in person, please use our anonymous feedback form. -
