On 21 May 2018, a group of high-school students from school No. 5 of Torzhok visited JINR.
The acquaintance with the Institute began at the JINR Museum of the History of Science and Technology. A.Rastorguev gave a talk on the history of development of accelerators and their design. A.Zlotnikova and K.Kozubsky presented the halls “History”, “Future”, and “Experimentarium” and gave a broad overview of the Museum exhibits.
The visit was continued in the Laboratory of Information Technologies, where LIT staff member M. Zuev told the students about the history of the JINR Computing Centre and guided a tour of the Multifunctional Information and Computing Complex. At the end of the tour, the guide gave the participants remarkable LIT souvenirs: bubble chamber films dated back as far as 1967.
Finally, the visitors went to the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems. DLNP researcher A. Antoshkin told the guests about the principle of photodetectors operation, showed the Dark Room – the laboratory for testing photomultipliers – and the NOvA experiment control room. He also told several amusing stories about everyday life of scientists, which provoked great emotional response in the young researchers.
