On Monday, 6 August 2018, the 3rd Summer School Physics and Mathematics «Dubna» for school students of 10-11 grades and their teachers was started. The School was organized by the State University “Dubna” jointly with the JINR University Centre.
At the opening of the school, the Vice-Rector of the University “Dubna” A.S. Denikin welcomed the participants, among whom there were about 50 students from the Moscow, Vologda and Yaroslavl regions of the Russian Federation the winners and finalists of the regional school physics and mathematics competitions, and 9 accompanying teachers. A.S. Denikin presented the programme of the upcoming School to the audience, which was followed by discussion of the work plan of the event. Later, an excursion tour around the University campus was held for students and teachers. The lecture programme of the first day of the school included a presentation by K. Roslon (VBLHEP, JINR) about JINR and its flagship project NICA, and also a lecture by A.S. Denikin (FLNR JINR) devoted to modern nuclear physics.
The Summer School on Physics and Mathematics «Dubna» is more than just a school or a summer camp. This is an area for communication and immersion in science for enthusiastic children: projects activity, solving Olympiad tasks, fascinating lectures, communication with like-minded friends. At the school, students are immersed in a real scientific environment – during their studies, they have a unique opportunity to visit a leading international scientific center – the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, to see with their own eyes how the largest mega-science project NICA is being implemented. The extracurricular part of the programme will be no less interesting: sports and creative activities, intellectual games, city tours.
Young participants of the Summer School on Physics and Mathematics “Dubna” are the target audience for the new joint educational project of JINR and the Dubna University – the Dubna International School of Engineering (higher school of physics), which will be launched in the new 2018/2019 academic year. The aim of the project is to create a source of manpower for JINR, producing highly qualified specialists ready to work in international scientific experiments in the design and operation of physics facilities and equipment.
In the frames of the 3rd Summer School on Physics and Mathematics “Dubna”, there is also an educational unit for teachers who arrived with their students. Upon completion of the programme, teachers will obtain a certificate of qualification upgrading for 36 hours. It is a prerogative of invited teachers to select students who come to the School.
The 3rd summer physics and mathematics school “Dubna” will work until 12 August 2018.
