Wave 1 of the INTEREST programme is coming to its end. The students finish their work on the projects under the supervision of JINR staff members and start preparing their final reports.
On 02 November 2020, Wave 2 of the Programme was launched officially. This time 18 projects have been offered to the attention of the website visitors, 103 applications from 43 people received. Wave 2 participants are 26 students from 12 countries: Belarus, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Mexico, Poland, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and Uzbekistan.
The INTEREST rules allow one and the same student to take part in the Programme again, but in another project, provided that its topic corresponds to the student's field of interest. Several Wave 1 participants took advantage of this opportunity, and 3 of them were selected to participate in Wave 2.
It is worth mentioning that several participants in the current wave visited JINR earlier to participate in the Summer Student Programme and the International Student Practice. Thus, their cooperation with the Institute continues.
On 04 November, Wave 2 students were welcomed by the JINR UC Director Prof S. Pakuliak and the INTEREST Team. The Director of the University Centre gave an introductory lecture about JINR and its main fields of research, as well as the opportunities that our Institute provides for students and young specialists. The lecture was concluded with a Q&A session. The listeners were curious to find out how the major international collaborations work, in particular, the ones related to the synthesis of superheavy elements. They were also interested to know more about the possibility of preparing theses at JINR and the ways of getting employed by the Institute.
The start of Wave 3 is scheduled for February 2021, and the application submission will begin shortly after the New Year holidays. JINR staff members who would like to become project supervisors and add their projects to the Programme’s list are welcome to register at interest.jinr.ru.
