On 15-16 September, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research hosted the fourth workshop project "Museum Connections" on the topic: "Mediation: the practice of interaction with the visitor, scientific communication". The project was organised by the Development Fund of the Polytechnic Museum in cooperation with the Polytechnic Museum and with the support of JINR. The staff-members of the JINR University Centre joined the organising committee of the event.
Within two days, the team of the Polytechnic Museum introduced the projects to the representatives of 30 scientific museums in Russia, and museums presenting scientific exhibitions. JINR scientists shared their personal experience in the field of science popularization. Mark Shirchenko, a senior researcher at JINR DLNP, delivered a lecture “Why should a scientist perform: personal experience of a popularizer”. Dmitry Naumov, Deputy Director of JINR DLNP, gave a lecture “Experience in popularization”.
Within the framework of introduction to JINR and the current experience in science communication, a joint report "Science Communications" was presented by Anastasia Suschevich – JINR UC, Anastasia Zlotnikova – JINR Museum, Maria Klimova – JINR Library.
The workshop participants visited the JINR Museum of History, Science, and Technology, the “JINR Basic Facilities” interactive exhibition, the DLNP Medical and Technical Complex, the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions and were told about the scientific achievements of the Institute.
One of the event programme activities was working in teams – creative sessions, where the participants were processing the information they had heard on such topics as: “Science communication. What for?", "Why should a scientist perform...", "Mediation in a scientific way. How Polytech explainers work ”, “Public programmes production cycle”, “Museum as a science communicator”.
During the workshop, the participants immersed themselves in the subject of science communication, exchanged experiences, picked up new ideas to implement them in their museums.
