Tver school students learn about LIT

On 02 March, 2022, an online lecture was organised for 8-9 grade students from school No. 51 in Tver. The event was held as part of the JINR UC Lectorium. Researcher of the Laboratory of Information Technologies Igor Pelevanyuk gave a lecture "LIT: Past and Present".

Igor Pelevanyuk introduced the students to the history and main activities of the Laboratory of Information Technologies and spoke about one of its founders, M.G. Meshcheryakov. The schoolchildren found out how computers had evolved over the past 50 years and how the development of science had influenced the use of computing technologies. Igor touched upon the topic of involvement of a constantly growing number of specialists and combining the efforts of scientists from different countries to solve newly emerging scientific tasks. The end of the lecture was dedicated to modern supercomputers, databases, neural networks, and megascience projects, where the staff members of LIT take part.

Over the past years, students of Tver School No. 51 have been actively introduced to the JINR Laboratories. Informatics teacher T.V. Tsiruleva noted the importance of such meetings for children, since it allows not only broadening one's horizons and finding out about new fields in science and possible areas of application of the acquired knowledge, but also helping to choose a profession. She expressed her gratitude to the staff members of the University Centre for organising the online meeting, and to the lecturer for an informative presentation.
