Schoolchildren from YaNAO in Dubna

In early December 2022, 20 winners of the municipal stage of the All-Russian Olympiad in Physics from the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug visited JINR.

A one-week visit of schoolchildren from Noyabrsk, Salekhard, Novy Urengoy, Nadym and other cities of YaNAO was organised for career guidance purposes and included introduction to the research infrastructure of JINR.

Staff-members of the JINR University Centre prepared an eventful excursion programme, and the guests got an opportunity to know more about the achievements and current projects of the Institute. The school students visited the Factory of Superconducting Magnets and the Multi-Purpose Detector of the NICA accelerator complex under construction, talked with scientists who take part in the NOvA and JUNO neutrino experiments, learned about the history of proton therapy at JINR and the Medical and Technical Complex. In addition, the guests listened to the lectures by the Institute's researchers and did a lab work at the UC engineering practicum.

In the regional Physics and Mathematics Lyceum named after Academician V.G. Kadyshevsky, the guests met with their peers and told each other about the cities they live and study in. Afterwards, the children participated in an interesting physics workshop. The programme of the visit also included a tour of the Dubna University, which encouraged the school students to consider studying at the JINR-based departments.
