From June 16th to July 4th 2025, the first stage of the International Student Practice took place at the JINR University Centre, bringing together 47 young researchers. This year’s participants included 24 students from the Republic of South Africa, 15 from Egypt and 8 from Belarus.
Over three weeks, the students were afforded a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of cutting-edge scientific research, working on projects in various JINR laboratories. They mastered new data analysis methods, familiarised themselves with modern equipment and learned from the institute’s leading scientists.
The students remarked that the atmosphere was incredibly motivating, and that the most wonderful thing was meeting peers from different countries.
A particular highlight was International Day, held in an informal setting and uniting all participants, including the academic supervisors. The programme included an engaging quiz on Russian culture and creative competitions. The culmination was the vibrant performances by students showcasing the culture of their respective nations. Some participants even delighted their colleagues with national cuisine, creating an atmosphere of friendship and international co-operation.
As part of the practice, a trip to Moscow was organised, involving 60 people. The students got to know the sights of the Russian capital and feel its unique atmosphere.
The practice concluded with a day of practice reports, where students presented the results of their work on projects covering various fields of physics, radiation biology and information technology. This event demonstrated the acquired knowledge and skills, and provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas.
One student’s feedback on the practice: “What I liked most about the practice at JINR was the unique opportunity to work in a truly international scientific environment. I was inspired by the collaboration between researchers from different countries, the advanced research equipment and the chance to apply theoretical knowledge in real experiments. It was a valuable experience that helped me grow both scientifically and personally.”
The experience gained at JINR is an important step in their future careers and strengthens international cooperation in the field of science.
