The 5th Science School for Pupils from Egypt

From 8 to 12 September 2025, the fifth Science School was held at JINR for the students of the Children’s University of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. Participants visited laboratories, took par at physics practicum in UC, met students from Kadyshevsky Lyceum.

From 8 to 12 September 2025, the fifth Science School was held at JINR for the students of the Children’s University of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. The participants for the programme were selected by competition from 500 applicants from across Egypt. Fourteen schoolchildren, accompanied by three supervisors from Egypt, visited the interactive exhibition “JINR Main Facilities”, the High Energy Physics Laboratory, where they saw the Magnet Hall, MPD detector and learned about the NICA mega-science project.

At the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, the schoolchildren visited the remote control room of the NOvA experiment and the “Dark Room”. The Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions hosted guests at the Factory of Superheavy Elements. Specialists from the University Centre conducted a series of scientific practicums.

Following the established tradition, the Egyptian schoolchildren were warmly welcomed at the Kadyshevsky Lyceum, where they were treated to a school tour, a science quiz, and a tea time with their peers. An excursion to Moscow served as a cultural addition to the school programme.

On the final day, the guests met with Egyptian staff members of JINR, who shared their experiences of working at the Institute and their impressions of life in Dubna. The event concluded with a certificate award ceremony and an exchange of opinions about the week spent in Dubna.

The participants of the School shared their impressions.

I really enjoyed meeting almost everyone who assisted us or gave a lecture during our stay in Dubna. Everyone was very helpful and kind. I particularly liked the visit to the Green Lab and the Dark Room with Dr. Alexander Antoshkin. The topics covered by his department were fascinating, and his experiments were very entertaining. It was also incredible to see the accelerator in person. Another highlight was the visit to the Lyceum, where I had the chance to meet students my own age, which was extremely fun.

Kerolos Melad, 15 years old

I really liked JINR, especially the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reaction, because I am interested in superheavy elements and their creation. I was also amazed by the exhibition “JINR Main Facilities”, which provides an overview of all JINR's facilities and uses virtual reality to demonstrate and offer a closer look inside them. Additionally, I would like to thank all the specialists who helped us understand more about this place.

Ahmed Elmedany, 14 years old

The laboratories were extremely interesting. We had the chance to conduct some experiments, which was really cool. The whole place was also very beautiful. I was deeply impressed by our visit to Moscow. The architecture was incredible, and the people were very friendly and kind to us. Initially, I wanted to become a pilot because I dream of flying, and I think operating an airplane is amazing. However, after visiting JINR, I might consider changing my career path.
