2-day visit from Muchurinsk

On 19-20 December 2016, a group of school students from Michurinsk, Tambov region, visited JINR. The guests were first welcomed at the Museum of the History of Science and Technology of JINR,

and afterwards in the Laboratory of Nuclear ReactionsLaboratory of Information TechnologiesLaboratory of Nuclear ProblemsJINR University Centre, and the Laboratory of High Energy Physics.

Staff members of the JINR Museum of the History of Science and Technology, A. Zlotnikova and K. Kozubsky, gave a class to familiarise the visitors with the main fields of research conducted at the Institute: the class included a lecture and a tour around the Museum halls.

In the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions A. Artyukh, A. Voinov and A. Belov showed the students the accelerators U-400M, IC-100, and the Microtron.

I. Pelevayuk, a staff member of the Laboratory of Information Technologies, introduced the guests to the working principles of the Central Information and Computing Complex.

The visit to the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems began with an introductory lecture on neutrino detection by N. Anfimov. After the lecture the students visited the “dark room”, where A. Selyunin told them about the method of testing photodetectors used in neutrino experiments, and A. Sheshukov introduced the children to the operation of the NOVA experiment control panel.

At the JINR University Centre I. Lomachenkov and D. Kozhevnikov demonstrated physics experiments to the visit participants.

The tour of the Michurinsk school students around JINR was concluded by their visiting the Laboratory of High Energy Physics. A. Svidetelev and D. Nikiforov showed the visitors the hall, where superconducting magnets are assembled and tested.
