On 14 December 2021, within the framework of cooperation agreement between RUDN and JINR, first-year RUDN University students majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science visited Dubna.
In the first half of the day, the guests got acquainted with the interactive exhibition "JINR Main Facilities". Nikita Sidorov, software engineer at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics, spoke about the achievements of the Institute's laboratories and about the operation principles of the JINR main facilities. With the help of virtual reality technology, students were able to find themselves at the Baikal GVD experiment and get inside the laboratories: the NICA accelerator complex, the DC-280 cyclotron, the IBR-2 pulsed reactor, and the LIT machine hall.
The next stage of the tour took place at the Laboratory of Information Technologies named after M.G. Meshcheryakov. LIT Scientific Secretary Olga Derenovskaya spoke about the history of the laboratory and its latest developments. LIT researcher Igor Pelevanyuk guided the students to the machine hall, where they saw the Supercomputer “Govorun” and the Tier-1 level centre involved in the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.
Visit to the Laboratory of High Energy Physics named after V.I. Veksler and A.M. Baldin turned out to be a memorable experience for the guests. VBLHEP engineer Olga Kazinova told the students about future experiments planned at the NICA accelerator complex. The tour participants got acquainted with the megascience project, saw the booster, the Nuclotron, the LU-20 linear accelerator, the new heavy-ion linear accelerator (HILAC), and the historical control room of the synchrophasotron.
