On 16 May, preliminary defense of theses written by the Master students of the JINR-based department "Nuclear-Physical Materials Science" of the Institute of Physics, Kazan (Volga region) Federal University, took place at the JINR University Centre.
Bekarys Yerzhanov presented his thesis "Structural phase transitions in Fe‒Ga‒Al alloys: results of neutron diffraction experiments" prepared at the Laboratory of Neutron Physics under the supervision of senior researcher Dr Ivan Bobrikov. Polina Sushkova made a presentation on the topic "Investigation of the parameters of silicon photomultipliers with surface and depth pixels." The work was prepared at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Scientific and Methodological Research and Innovation Prof Sergei Tyutyunnikov and assistance of engineer Ramil Aladdin ogly Akberov. Bulat Khamidullin reported on the results of the work "Determination of the characteristics of CsI(Tl)-based scintillation detectors" that was written while working at the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions and supervised by senior researcher Dr Vratislav Chudoba.
The pre-defense board included Head of the Department Prof A.V. Belushkin, JINR UC Director Prof S.Z. Pakulyak, experts of the JINR laboratories: Prof A.M. Balagurov, S.V. Sumnikov, I.A. Bobrikov, R.A.o. Akberov, V. Chudoba, O. Lis, B.A. Bakirov, Yu.E. Gorshkova and the experts of the KFU Institute of Physics: Deputy Director for Educational Activities of the KFU Institute of Physics, Associate Professor of the Department “Nuclear-Physical Materials Science” Dr N.V. Boltakova and Head of the Department "Physics of the Solid State" Prof E.V. Voronin.
The board noted the high level of the Master students’ preparation, gave recommendations on the material presentation, made comments on the format of thesis projects, and wished the graduates good luck at the defense of their graduation theses to be held at the KFU Institute of Physics on 23 June.
