From 7 to 11 September 2026, Dubna hosted a sScience School for Students of the Children's University of the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT).
Their introduction to the Institute began with the updated “JINR Basic Facilities” exhibition. The pupils explored the displays, tried out VR technology and asked the organisers numerous questions about scientific research and how the facilities operate. Later that day, they investigated cosmic rays during a practical session prepared by Yuri Panebratsev’s team.
Throughout the week, the participants visited JINR laboratories, toured the IBR-2 reactor, DC-140, and the Magnet Factory, learnt about the NOvA and JUNO projects and research in radiation biology, and saw how JINR uses supercomputers for scientific calculations and data processing.
The Egyptian pupils also met students from the V. G. Kadyshevsky Lyceum, who organised a tour and a quiz for their guests. Afterwards, they continued socialising and played football and volleyball together.
The programme also included guided tours of Dubna and Moscow. At the closing session, the participants split into teams and presented their impressions of JINR, Dubna, Russian culture and the Russian capital. With little preparation time, they confidently shared the highlights of their eventful week. The group leaders also reflected on the visit, praising the programme for its variety and educational content.
In his closing remarks, Director of the JINR University Centre Dmitry Kamanin thanked the participants for the hard work they had put into completing all the selection stages to earn their place on the programme in Dubna. He also took part in the certificate presentation ceremony. Half of the participants said they would seriously consider returning to Dubna for a placement once they become university students.
